Running with Heart: The David Brown Foundation Shines at the Great North Run 2024

On September 8th, the streets of Newcastle were buzzing with excitement as runners took on the challenge of the Great North Run, one of the world’s most iconic half marathons. Among the sea of determined participants were four dedicated runners representing The David Brown Foundation: Julia Dawson, Jim Dawson, Matt Shield, and Scott Dearnley.

Months of hard work and training led up to this monumental day. However, there was a twist in the tale when Nicole Shield, who had signed up to run alongside the team, had to withdraw at the last minute. But in a beautiful show of commitment, her husband Matt made the bold decision to run with a 20kg weight vest, determined to make up for her absence and double his fundraising efforts.

Matt’s remarkable gesture paid off in more ways than one. Not only did he complete the race, but he also raised a staggering £1,230 for our foundation! His incredible effort and determination touched many hearts, inspiring people to donate and support his challenge.

All four runners successfully crossed the finish line, making the months of preparation and fundraising worth every step. Together, the team raised an outstanding total of £4,178, a testament to their passion, resilience, and commitment to making a difference.\

We want to extend our deepest thanks to Julia, Jim, Matt, Scott, and of course, Nicole for her support behind the scenes. Their collective efforts have made a huge impact, and the funds raised will go a long way in helping us continue our work at The David Brown Foundation.

We are so proud of our runners and grateful for the generosity of everyone who donated. We can’t wait to lace up our shoes and do it all again next year!

Thank you for your support!
