The David Brown Foundation is delighted to have awarded a £2,370 grant to Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm, helping children facing poverty, disadvantage and challenging circumstances experience the benefits of outdoor learning, adventure and time in nature this summer.

Our funding will enable three partner schools to take part in summer camping experiences at Lineham Farm, providing opportunities for 48 children who may otherwise never have the chance to experience something like this.

For many of the children attending, it will be their first experience of camping, making this a particularly special project for the Foundation to support.

More Than a Camping Trip

A childhood camping trip can create memories that last a lifetime. But for children and families experiencing financial hardship or difficult circumstances, opportunities that many of us might take for granted aren't always accessible.

Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm works to change that.

Set within the countryside, Lineham Farm provides children with the opportunity to step away from the pressures of everyday life, spend meaningful time outdoors and experience activities designed to support their confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing.

Our £2,370 grant will fund three summer camping activities, including outdoor adventures, sensory experiences and nutritious home-cooked meals. Most importantly, children will be given the freedom and opportunity to simply enjoy being children.

48 Children, New Experiences and Lasting Memories

Through this funding, 48 children from three partner schools will have the opportunity to participate. For some, it could be the first time they have slept under canvas. For others, it may be their first opportunity to spend an extended period surrounded by nature, try new outdoor activities or experience a trip away from their usual environment.

These experiences can provide far more than a fun day or night away. Outdoor activities encourage children to challenge themselves, work with others, solve problems and discover abilities they may not have realised they possessed.

Trying something unfamiliar and succeeding can help build confidence and resilience that children can take back into school and their everyday lives. The programme will also provide nutritious, home-cooked meals throughout the experience, helping ensure every child can participate fully and equally.

Giving Every Child the Opportunity to Thrive

When Leeds Children’s Charity wrote to us following the grant award, they explained what the opportunity could mean for the young people taking part:

“For many of the children we support, this will be their first opportunity to experience camping, spend meaningful time in nature, and take part in activities designed to build confidence, resilience, and wellbeing.”

They continued:

“Through outdoor adventure, sensory activities, and time away from the pressures of everyday life, these young people will have the chance to create positive memories, develop new skills, and improve their emotional wellbeing.”

This is exactly the type of opportunity the David Brown Foundation wants to help make possible.

A child's financial circumstances should not determine whether they get to experience adventure, discover new interests, develop their confidence or create happy childhood memories.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Education doesn't only happen behind a desk. Some of the most valuable lessons children learn can come from trying something new, working as a team, overcoming a challenge or discovering that they are capable of something they initially thought they couldn't do.

David understood the importance of supporting the whole child throughout his career in education.

Today, the David Brown Foundation continues that belief by supporting opportunities that help young people develop academically, socially and personally.

We Can't Wait to See Their Adventures

We are incredibly proud to support Leeds Children’s Charity at Lineham Farm and the fantastic work they do for children and young people.

Our £2,370 grant will give 48 children from three partner schools access to experiences that may otherwise have been beyond their reach, and we are excited to hear about their adventures and the memories they create.

To the team at Lineham Farm, the participating schools and everyone helping make these experiences possible – thank you.
